Marble is a luxury choice for designing countertops in your home or business. At Onslow Stoneworks, with showroom locations in Swansboro and New Bern, we proudly serve homeowners throughout Jacksonville, Wilmington, and communities across Eastern North Carolina with a wide selection of custom marble countertops. Known for its rich white and light gray tones with distinctive veining, marble brings timeless elegance and refined detail to kitchens, bathrooms, and specialty spaces.
Yes. Marble countertops can work well in both residential and commercial spaces, especially where appearance, natural character, and long-term use are important.
Marble has been used for decades in homes and public spaces, including libraries, museums, and other high-visibility interiors. Although marble is softer and more reactive than granite, it can remain durable for many years when properly cared for. Sealing helps reduce moisture and staining, while routine maintenance helps preserve the surface. Over time, marble may develop etching and a natural patina, which many homeowners and designers value as part of the stone’s character.
Marble offers a wide range of colors, veining patterns, and movement, making each slab naturally distinctive. Our New Bern and Swansboro showrooms regularly feature selections such as White Carrara, known for its softer gray veining and classic light background; Calacatta, which typically offers brighter white tones with bolder, more dramatic veining; and Fantasy Brown, recognized for its warmer mix of brown, cream, gray, and flowing movement. Other marble selections may introduce different levels of contrast, warmth, and pattern, giving homeowners plenty of flexibility when choosing a surface for their space.
Seeing the stone in person makes it easier to compare subtle differences in background color, veining, and surface movement—and choose a slab that complements your cabinetry, flooring, fixtures, and overall design.
Yes, Marble can be an eco-conscious countertop choice because it is a natural stone with a long usable life, although its overall environmental impact depends on quarrying, transportation, fabrication, and waste.
Marble begins as limestone that is transformed over millions of years by heat and pressure into the crystalline stone used for countertops and other architectural surfaces. After quarrying, it is cut into slabs, finished, and fabricated for installation rather than being manufactured from a blend of synthetic materials.
Its durability can also support long-term use and reduce the need for frequent replacement when the stone is properly maintained. For homeowners prioritizing sustainability, factors such as stone longevity, sourcing, transportation distance, and responsible fabrication are all worth considering.
Marble is considered a luxury option to granite or quartz countertops. However, some marbles can be just as affordable as a premium granite. The cost of marble is determined by where it is quarried and how much is available to turn into custom countertops.
When you find a slab of marble that complements your design plan, we take over at Onslow Stoneworks to craft a custom countertop specifically for your kitchen or bath. After your base cabinets are installed, we measure for a template. Our technicians take those measurements and enter them into our cutting machine to carve your marble counters to fit precisely. We can create a counter in any shape or size for your project.
